Fun at carlisle
« on: June 09, 2013, 09:03:25 PM »
Had a great time this year.  For the first time in years I didn't have to be in ten places at once or keep things on schedule.  I got to enjoy myself, go to the swap meet and even picked up some seats for the Boss Pinto. Found one of the vendors that does the upholstery and foam.  One stop shopping! :-) Got to spend time with the SVT team and parked the Pinto in the SVT tent.  Funny thing, all those Mustang and Raptor SVT Fords on display and everyone visiting the tent went right to the Pinto. Made me smile and they didn't mind a bit, it was like visiting family.  I got to hang out with my buddy John Clor, he is supporting us with the Stampede again, got us Gateway Raceway Park for some fun on the Stampede. I will also be stopping in to visit the Ford facilities when I drive through Dearborn on the way to the Stampede. Anyone who will be in the area around late July, let me know maybe we can hook up and you can join me.  The luncheon with the Ford Celebrities was fun, I took John and Wayne from Stampede fame.  That was cool, we had lunch and ate some Ford cookies (sorry Brian I didn't save any).  I didn't pick a Pinto this year for my pick, I picked a 1977 LTD II with a blower.  It was an oddball sitting out there. the owner was pleasantly surprised and didn't even know what a celebrity pick was.  I also ran into Steve and John Salter. (PCCA guys and Carlisle faithful)  Spent a few minutes talking to Sam Auxier of Pinto drag racing fame, I may be on his radio show in a few weeks covering the Stampede, looking forward to that.  Cool to see people I am starting to know as old friends.  I had one southern gentleman and his Dad and brother stop to check out the Boss.  He told me "I saw this Pinto in Roanoke Virginia last year, I tried to get a picture but it drove away before I could"  Small world! This guy remembered my car as we passed on the highway on the way to last years Stampede, cool!  I put my horse head mask on and climbed into the drivers seat and let him take his picture.
The bad, it was not the same without our friend Rick Markko hosting the event. I have to give Ken Appell his props for a job well done his first time out.  Rick my brother, you are missed, I hope to hook up again somewhere down the road.

Overall a good time was had after the skies cleared.  I didn't take any pictures other than of the LTD II.  I have some seats to re-upholster before the Stampede, I will leave you with that.

Sounds great!!!  I'm definitely looking forward to the time when my life has simplified enough to allow me to get to Carlisle again.  Maybe next year!
