Some folks are into the Big Bumpers as opposed to the Small... Does size matter?  Ahh, Scott- where are you going with this?  :)

Ha, I am just going down the line voting for my Pinto's qualities. I think the 79/80 front end looks more aggresive than any other year, and that is why I voted for it. Second favorite would have to be the '76's, with the rectangular turn signals that "float" at either end of the grill.

Ive had both a 73 runabout and a 77 cruisin' wagon. and one 78 runabout. The 73 I had was the least complicated of the three. It was a very nice car. The 78 Runabout was a glass hatch version that I felt was a smoother driving and better looking car, because of the glass back. But it was very slow compared to the 73. The CWagon was a V6 automatic that I liked the looks of ( bright yellow, stripe delete) but it seemed slow too! the six didnt really do much for it. I would probably prefer a manual trans Cwagon with a 2.3 if I can get one. I would def' get another 2.0 73 Runabout! Maybe try to do a Pangra kit on it.

I wanted a pinto. I could not find one in my area that had potential. I found a 77 bobcat. It was almost a pinto so I bought it. I was just a little disappointed. Then I started to appreciate all the chrome. The big grill with the chrome outline that just screams I am a Mercury. Only 17,000 made that year. I like being unique. Now I am thrilled.

71 Runnabout, no trim on bumpers just gleaming shiney chrome, black interior, any exterior color.  That is the coolest pinto.

Whatever the first year mid-late '70s where they sloped the grille. It looked super on pro and modified cars.

I think 1971 is the coolest year. It would need to be equipped with the 2.0, manual transmission, and whatever differential option provided the fastest acceleration. lol

Being the first model year, the styling is in it's purest form. It's the closest to what the designers originally intended the pinto to look like.

'71 cars have less pollution control equipment and higher horsepower ratings than later cars. They were also lighter (although structurally weaker) than later cars, therefore the best performers in stock form.

Also, I'm willing to bet there aren't a lot of survivors left from the '71 model year, so to have one would make it that much cooler!

76 thru 78 for their sporty front end.79&80 reminds me of 79 to early 80s mustangs.

I have to go with the 71 also. I own 2, 1 race and 1 street (both trunk models). My son has a 71 also. They are the lightest and make for great race cars. My second choice would be any year "woody" wagon. I bought 1 new in 1980.

I would say 71 to 73 since they are the pencil bumpers - add a wagon and you're golden!

This is a tuff call...my #1 choice would be a 72 Runabout, 2.0, 4-speed in Grabber Blue...a little more refind than a 71 but still very basic....#2 would be 79-80 Runabout 2.3, 4-speed, all grown up and last of the breed,  best ride quality and a nice option list...
