Body panel interchange with 1979 Pinto
« on: October 12, 2004, 02:44:18 PM »
I couldn't find this information in a search.  I expect this is an easy one for you Pinto experts.
I recently purchased a 1979 Pinto drag car.  I'd like to put some fiberglass panels on it, but it appears that parts for the 79 are quite rare, (if they exist).

Will the front clip from earlier Pintos fit the 79?  I don't care if it ends up looking like a 1972 Pinto.

Thanks!

YES / YES / YES!
I put a complete( hood-fenders-grill-bumpers-etc-etc) 74 Pinto front end on my 80 Pinto race car.  Perfect fit.  I also put a 79/80 Pinto front end on a 76 Pinto.  Also perfect fit. You must change it as a unit.  Forget the glass fenders as they only save 3 lbs over the steel ones.  Glass hood saves about 10 lbs. If your interested, I have a new glass hood for sale.

Great,
Thanks for the information.  I was thinking about a glass 1-pc front, minus the hood.

Are the doors all the same on the 2-dr cars too?

Thanks again!
and how much do you want for that hood?

I've never tryed the doors, but Unlimited Fiberglass's catalog shows only one glass door for all models, so they should interchange. The early 74 doors did not have the safety bars in them and s/b the litest. Look at my ad for the hood in the classfied section (#450). If you go one piece, look at "Harry Glass" as they have a 77/78 front end & hatch. DICK
